View instructions that describe how to unsubscribe from Spare the Air alert notifications.
There are several different types of Air District Spare the Air Alerts. You can follow the steps below for the alert type you wish to stop receiving.
Phone alerts are recorded voice messages that provide an update when an alert has been called.
To unsubscribe from phone alerts, please send us an email at communications@baaqmd.gov and include the phone number you wish to have removed.
These are text messages to mobile phones that provide an update for three different subscriptions lists: Summer, Winter, and Emergency.
To unsubscribe: If you are receiving messages from the official Spare the Air Alert SMS text service, you can unsubscribe by texting the word “STOP” in reply to your text alert message or to the number 817-57. For additional assistance, text the word “HELP” to the number 817-57.
If you want to unsubscribe from Spare the Air Alerts:
Note: There is an email-to-text service provided by EnviroFlash which is more complex to subscribe and unsubscribe from. If you are receiving text alerts that come from a number other than 817-57, you may be subscribed via the EnviroFlash service. If this appears to be the case, see the section below on Enviroflash Text Notifications.
These are email messages that provide an update when an alert has been called. Daily air quality forecasts are also available.
To unsubscribe:
If you signed up for text alerts on the Enviroflash website, you had to use your phone number as an email address in order to receive the emails as text messages. You will need that address to unsubscribe.
If you can’t remember your phone number email address, you will need to determine the text-to-email address for your phone number using these instructions on converting an phone number to an email address based on carrier. The format is dependent upon which carrier you have for your mobile phone.

To stop receiving notifications via the Spare the Air smartphone app:
You will still be able to see the current Spare the Air status by manually opening the app.
