Why Rebrand? A Fresh Look for Clean Air

As the Bay Area evolves, so must we. The Air District’s rebrand is a response to our changing world and the growing needs of the communities we serve.

Here’s why the time was right for a new look:

  • Symbolizing a New Direction: Recent leadership changes brought fresh priorities and a vision that needed a cohesive identity to match.
  • Focused on Progress: In a rapidly changing world, a modernized brand helps us stay connected and effective in our mission.
  • Enhancing Clarity: The previous logo lacked distinctiveness, making it harder to represent the Air District’s goals and values clearly.
  • Reflecting Community Needs: Our new identity honors the Bay Area’s diversity, environmental justice initiatives, and our commitment to clean air for all.

This rebrand isn’t just a visual update — it’s a renewed promise to lead with purpose and align with the aspirations of the communities we serve.

What Does Our New Logo Stand For?

Our new logo represents both continuity and progress, embodying the core values of the Bay Area Air District while embracing a cleaner, more modern design.

Blue Heritage: The blue tones are a nod to our legacy, reflecting the clear skies and clean air we strive to protect. Blue has long been part of our visual identity, symbolizing trust, reliability, and a focus on environmental stewardship.

Nine Stripes for Nine Counties: The flowing lines in the logo represent the nine counties we serve, showcasing our commitment to improving air quality across the entire Bay Area. These stripes also signify the movement of air and the interconnectedness of our communities.

Evolution of Our Logo: While the design is new, it’s a natural evolution from our previous logo, maintaining continuity while embracing the future. The updated look reflects the changing landscape of air quality management and our proactive approach to future challenges.

Circle of Justice and Impact: The circular shape symbolizes both environmental justice and our global impact. It reflects our ongoing commitment to equity, ensuring that all communities have access to clean air, and highlights our role in addressing global environmental issues.

Blue Skies, Clean Air: The sweeping blue lines mirror the natural flow of clean air and the vast skies we aim to protect. They represent the harmony between the environment and the people of the Bay Area, working together for a future of clean air for all.

A Simpler Name for a Clearer Mission

To better connect with the public, we’ve streamlined our name from Bay Area Air Quality Management District to Bay Area Air District.

Old logo on left with full name, Bay Area Air Quality Management District," and word "Before" underneath, with new logo on the right with shortened name "Bay Area Air District" and word "After" underneath.

While the longer name remains for formal use, we chose a simpler, more memorable option. A clean, contemporary font ensures our name is easy to read. These changes reflect our commitment to accessible and engaging air quality information, always focusing on delivering Clean Air for All.

Our Continued Commitment: Clean Air for All

Our rebrand is not just a visual refresh — it’s a reflection of our enduring dedication to clean air and environmental justice for every community we serve.

We remain steadfast in our mission to protect public health, reduce environmental inequities, and combat climate change. Guided by our mission and core values, we’re excited to embrace the future with a renewed focus on collaboration, equity, and innovation. Together, we’ll continue building a healthier, more sustainable Bay Area for all.
