Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral often used in building materials and construction. Because asbestos has been proven to cause serious and fatal diseases, it is strictly regulated in its use as a building material and where it occurs naturally.
The Air District regulates(59 Kb PDF, 16 pgs, revised 4/24/2018) the demolition and renovation of buildings and structures that may contain asbestos, and the manufacture of materials known to contain asbestos.
The Air District must be notified at least 10 business days before:
For residential buildings of four or fewer dwelling units, you may notify the Air District 72 hours in advance with the payment of an additional fee.
Air District regulations must always be followed when removing asbestos or demolishing buildings.
