Community Grants Program
Learn about a grant program that provides funding for community-based projects in the areas most impacted by air pollution in our region.
James Cary Smith Grant Program
This program is named for Jim Smith, the Air District's former Community Outreach Manager who launched the first community grants program in 2009. Mr. Smith passed away in 2015 from ALS, and this program extends his vision of a more engaged and empowered community.
Cycle 2 of the Community Grant Program
The application period for Cycle 2 of the James Cary Smith Community Grant Program opened on October 7, 2024, and closed on January 7, 2025. The grant cycle was very competitive. We anticipate posting the list of Cycle 2 grants awarded in May 2025. The Air District applauds all applicants for their ongoing efforts to improve air quality and public health in the Bay Area.
