Community Grants Program

Learn about a grant program that provides funding for community-based projects in the areas most impacted by air pollution in our region.

James Cary Smith Grant Program

This program is named for Jim Smith, the Air District's former Community Outreach Manager who launched the first community grants program in 2009. Mr. Smith passed away in 2015 from ALS, and this program extends his vision of a more engaged and empowered community.

Cycle 2 Application Period Now Open

The Air District is pleased to announce a grant opportunity for Bay Area community-based organizations, neighborhood associations, and other local nonprofits to uplift local efforts that improve air quality and public health. Grants must be used to design and implement strategies that foster authentic and meaningful engagement, and build community capacity to actively participate in planning activities that improve a community’s environmental health. Detailed information can be found in the materials below.

Applications are due by 5 PM Pacific Time on January 7, 2025. For questions or assistance with the application, please contact communitygrants@baaqmd.gov.
