Developing a Sustainable Organics Recovery Sector:
A Forum for Sharing Strategies and Building Toward a Regional Consensus

On June 25, 2018, the  Air District hosted an interactive discussion about the development of the Bay Area's organic materials recovery sector. This event convened regional stakeholders to foster an exchange of ideas and to build toward a more sustainable system for the collection, separation, chipping, grinding, piling, composting, digestion, thermal conversion, and land application of recoverable organics.

The opening remarks and framing presentation for this event are included below. Following them are six sections bearing the titles of the interactive discussion stations that formed the core of this event: (1) Getting to YIMBY, (2) Developing Local Facilities, (3) Building a Renewable Bio-economy, (4) Rules for Organics Recovery, (5) Permitting Facilities, and (6) Anticipated Emissions along the Supply Chain. Materials (i.e., posters and handouts) for each are listed below them. Finally, the last section includes the roll-up slide from the final plenary, where discussion leaders reported back on the three rounds of discussion.
