Air Quality Fact

Particulate matter, or PM, consists of microscopically small solid particles or liquid droplets suspended in the air. PM can be emitted directly into the air, or it can be formed from secondary reactions involving gaseous pollutants that combine in the atmosphere.

The Nine County Jurisdiction of the Air District

The District's jurisdiction encompasses all of seven counties - Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San MateoSanta Clara and Napa, and portions of two others - southwestern Solano and southern Sonoma.

The full legal description of the jurisdictional boundaries of the Bay Area Air Quality Management District is set forth in Section 60101 of Title 17 of the California Code of Regulations.
