In the Bay Area, as in the entire state of California, a certain amount of air pollution comes from stationary industrial sources, such as refineries and power plants. However, a greater percentage of harmful air emissions come from cars and trucks, construction equipment, and other mobile sources.

Wood Burning Status

The 2009-10 Winter Spare the Air season ended on February 28. There is currently no wood burning ban in place.

The Bay Area burn status will be updated daily during the 2010-11 Winter Spare the Air season beginning November 1.

Bicycle Facility Program

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District's (Air District’s) Bicycle Facility Program (BFP) provides grant funding to reduce motor vehicle emissions through the implementation of new bikeways and bicycle parking facilities in the Bay Area. The BFP is funded through the Transportation Fund for Clean Air (TFCA) program.

The Air District is currently reviewing all applications submitted by September 14, 2009, and will notify applicants of their status by November 1, 2009. 

The Air District received 15 applications requesting a total of $683,665 as of September 14, 2009. With $600,000 available for FY 2009/2010, the program is currently oversubscribed. The Air District will continue to accept applications; however, additional review of applications is on hold until further notice.

 

Who Can Apply? 

Public agencies are eligible.

Project Eligibility 

Proposed projects must comply with Board-adopted policies and be located within the Air District’s boundaries of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara Counties, and the southern parts of Solano and Sonoma.

  • Class II – Bicycle Lanes
  • Class III – Bicycle Routes
  • Bicycle Lockers and Racks
  • Secure Bicycle Parking
  • Bicycle Racks on Public Transportation Vehicles

Application Forms and Submittal Instructions

Applicants must complete parts 1-6 of the 2009 Grant Application Form.

•    Parts 2 - 6 (must be printed and filled out)

 

Complete Part 1 in Microsoft Excel and email to the Strategic Incentives Division.

Submit two (2) hard copies of complete application (all Parts) by mail and/or hand-delivery to:
