Wood Burning Status

The 2009-10 Winter Spare the Air season ended on February 28. There is currently no wood burning ban in place.

The Bay Area burn status will be updated daily during the 2010-11 Winter Spare the Air season beginning November 1.

Communications & Outreach Division

The Communications & Outreach Division serves the public and the media as the Air District's clearinghouse for information about its programs and operations. The Division manages outreach programs including Spare the Air, Winter Spare the Air, 1-800-EXHAUST (smoking vehicle reporting), and Bay Area Resource Teams.

This Division conducts community outreach to local communities to promote Air District policies and initiatives.  Some of its other functions include preparing and producing non-technical publications for the general public, overseeing advertising and public relations on behalf of the Air District, scheduling speakers and conducting educational programs in the schools.

 

History of the Air District 

Since 1955, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District has been working to improve air Quality in the Bay Area.

 

Wood Burning 

The nine counties that surround San Francisco Bay are home to almost seven million residents and an estimated 1.7 million fireplaces and woodstoves.

 

Air Currents Newsletter 

Air Currents is a newsletter published by the BAAQMD's Outreach & Incentives Division. It covers air quality issues of interest to industry, government agencies, and the general public.

 

Spare the Air

The Spare the Air Program informs the public about air pollution and encourages them to change their behavior to prevent it.

 

Smoking Vehicle Program 

If you spot a vehicle emitting excess smoke, call 1-800-EXHAUST or email to exhaust@baaqmd.gov and give the license number and the date, time and place the vehicle was spotted.

 

Publications

The Air District prepares a variety of brochures, flyers, handbooks, and other publications of a general nature that provide information about air quality issues, regulations and operating policies.
